Lamesa woman dies in crash

A 35-year-old Lamesa woman was killed Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash 12 miles north of Midland.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Alyssa Chere Owens was driving a Hyundai Palisade north on State Highway 349 when she failed to control her speed and rear-ended a Peterbilt with a trailer that was stopped waiting to turn left onto a private road.

Owens, who was wearing her seat belt, was declared dead at the scene of the crash, which happened around 3:30 p.m.

The 39-year-old driver of the Peterbilt, a Lamesa man, was uninjured.
