The second annual Maker Show, presented by the Fab Lab Permian Basin at Odessa College, held a closing reception at 4 p.m. on Feb. 14 at the Phillips Goff Gallery in Sedate Hall and announced the winners of this year’s exhibition. The exhibit showcased users and items of the Fab Lab and demonstrated the possibilities of beginner to advanced creative journeys.

Fab Lab Director Adriana Moreno said, “We had almost twice as many entries this year as we did for the first Maker Show last year … we had 50 entries – 27 individuals submitted their work, various individuals also submitted multiple entries, and some makers worked collaboratively on entries.”

Through the use of digital fabrication technology and traditional mediums, such as CNC machines, 3D printers, laser engravers/cutters, and the vinyl cutter, the participants created various works which include items such as ceramics pieces, paintings, jewelry, and prints.

Moreno said, “Our mission at the Fab Lab is to instill and foster the maker spirit in everyone … any maker at any skill level from kids to at-home hobbyists to entrepreneurs, artists, and professional craftsman can take advantage of the resources available to them at the Fab Lab.”
