Audition dates for ‘9 to 5: The Musical’ announced

This week, Basin Theatre Works has announced the audition dates for its upcoming production “9 to 5: The Musical.”

Auditions will be held from 6-9 p.m. March 31 and 12-3 p.m. April 1 at the Permian Playhouse, located on 310 W. 42nd Street.

The show will take place this summer from June 2-4 and 9-11.

“9 to 5: The Musical,” which was written by Dolly Parton and Patricia Resnick is set in the late 1970s and is the hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the age of the Rolodex — outrageous, thought-provoking, and even a little romantic.

Pushed to the boiling point, three female co-workers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss.

In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy, and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy — giving their boss the boot.

While Hart remains “otherwise engaged,” the women give their workplace a dramatic makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down.

This high-energy show is ideal for a mostly female cast, but also has opportunities for talented males. With its jubilant score and easily relatable characters, “9 to 5: The Musical” is a joy for community theaters everywhere.

The musical will be directed by Micaela Grenier with Jon Montgomery as the assistant director.

Amanda Lopez will be the choreographer and Emily Hatch will be the vocal director.
