DPS reports multiple fatal wrecks in Midland County

The Texas Department of Public Safety issued press releases that detailed a 35-year-old New Mexico woman and a 61-year-old Navasota man died in separate two-vehicle wreck in Midland County.

The fatal wreck for the 35-year-old woman happened at 8:36 a.m. Dec. 19 near the intersection of State Highway 349 and County Road 130, while the fatal wreck for the 61-year-old man occurred at 6:40 p.m. Dec. 21 on Business Interstate 20 at mile marker 315 about one mile West of Midland.

The press release stated Ana Isabel Gonzalez-Ruiz, 35, of Moriarty, N.M., was driving a 2000 Toyota Tacoma, while Bailey Erin Rhodes, 33, of Odessa was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado.

DPS detailed that preliminary investigation showed the Tacoma was traveling eastbound on County Road 130 approaching the stop sign marked intersection of State Highway 349. The Silverado was traveling southbound on State Highway 349 when the Tacoma disregarded the stop sign and was struck in the intersection by the Silverado.

Gonzalez-Ruiz wasn’t wearing her seatbelt, the press release stated. She was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead by medical staff.

DPS stated Rhodes was wearing her seatbelt and she wasn’t injured in the collision.

In a second press release, DPS detailed that Michael Donald Galvin, 36, of Cypress was driving a 2022 Ford Expedition with passengers Michael Kennedy, 61, of Navasota and Tyler Clark, 46, of Montgomery. Odessan Jerry Flores, 21, was driving a 2013 Ford F-150.

Preliminary investigation showed the Expedition failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign entering Business Interstate 20 from the service road. The F-150 was traveling westbound on Business Interstate 20 and collided with the Expedition.

DPS reported that Galvin was wearing his seatbelt and was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital in stable condition. It was unknown if Clark was wearing his seatbelt and he was also transported to Midland Memorial Hospital in stable condition. It was unknown if Kennedy was wearing his seatbelt and he was pronounced dead at the scene by Midland EMS.

Flores was wearing his seatbelt and was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
