COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Odessa College falls in NJCAA Region V title game

WOLFFORTH After holding a halftime lead, the Odessa College men’s basketball team couldn’t ward off a second half rally from South Plains College in the NJCAA Region V title game Saturday at Wolfforth Frenship High School’s Tiger Pit.

The Wranglers went on to suffer an 87-83 loss, their first in three matchups against South Plains this year.

Odessa College trailed by three points with 1:15 left in regulation until Daniss Jenkins managed a steal and quick 3-pointer to tie it up at 78-78.

Kieves Turner immediately hit a 3-pointer of his own to give the Texans another lead, which grew after he hit two free throws on a foul under his own basket.

Turner went on to give South Plains a five-point lead before Anthony Marshall was fouled shooting from deep, immediately converting all three free throw attempts.

It wouldn’t be enough as Turner made two shots from the charity stripe to win the game.

Both teams will advance to the NJCAA Men’s Division I National Championship Tournament in Hutchinson, Kan
